Professional Training Workshop (Includes Live, Interactive Online Workshop on May 16th, 2025): Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD Treatment in Adults - Training for Mental Health Professionals

Professional training workshop delivered via 12 pre-recorded video modules, clinical skill demonstration videos and worksheets. Includes an additional clinical application skills workshop delivered live and online via Zoom (Maximum = 35 Participants).

This training workshop provides a comprehensive overview of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) treatment for mental health clinicians working with adult OCD clients. Dr. Gayle Maloney, Director and Principal Clinical Psychologist at Perth OCD Clinic in Australia, and Associate Clinical Professor at the Yale OCD Research Clinic, will provide practical clinical skills to guide you through a detailed treatment protocol for ERP. The workshop consists of 12 modules of pre-recorded didactic content, role-play videos demonstrating clinical skills, downloadable worksheets, and reflection exercises (7 hours of CPD); PLUS a live, online clinical skills workshop (5 hours CPD) to practise the ERP skills.

The pre-recorded training modules cover assessment, diagnosis, clinical features, subtypes of OCD, case formulation, personalised OCD models, psycho-education, cognitive interventions, and mindfulness-based strategies. The focus will be on developing individualised, values-based ERP hierarchies with corresponding response plans. The workshop also includes advanced topics in OCD, such as the clinical application of ERP treatment through in-depth case studies of adult OCD sufferers with different subtypes of OCD, designing and implementing imaginal exposure, identifying treatment-resistant OCD and treatment sequencing considerations, addressing beliefs related to perfectionism/self-worth, relapse prevention, and common hurdles. Furthermore, a webinar by Dr. Christopher Pittenger (MD & PhD; Professor of Psychiatry at Yale OCD Research Clinic) providing an overview of the neurobiology and pharmacotherapy treatment for OCD is included. The training modules are provided over a three-month duration to ensure you can learn at your own pace.

Join us for an additional live online workshop via Zoom where you can practice applying your ERP skills in small breakout rooms. Dr. Maloney will be there to provide guidance and support, and there will be multiple Q&A sessions for participants. Due to the practical nature of the workshop, a maximum of 35 people can participate in the live clinical application workshop, and the live component of the workshop cannot be recorded.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD): 12 hours (comprised of 7 hours of pre-recorded training modules + a 5-hour live and online clinical application skills workshop delivered via Zoom).

Dates: The live interactive and online clinical applications workshop is delivered via Zoom on 16th May, 2025 (9.30am-3pm, AWST). The pre-recorded training modules are available 60 days prior to the live workshop, and for 30 days afterwards (90 days total duration).

Dr Gayle Maloney

Associate Clinical Professor

Dr. Gayle Maloney is the Director and Principal Clinical Psychologist at the Perth OCD Clinic, located in Australia. She also holds an appointment as an Associate Clinical Professor at the Yale OCD Research Clinic. Gayle has treated individuals with OCD in Perth for over 25 years and still enjoys working with an active caseload of clients. She has presented her research at national and international OCD conferences and has published OCD research in peer-reviewed journals. Gayle is a sought-after supervisor and trainer in the OCD field and is regularly invited to present on OCD treatment at conferences, tertiary institutions, and public and private clinics worldwide. Gayle is dedicated to offering high-quality ERP training options, including live workshops, especially for mental health clinicians who reside outside Europe and the Americas and naturally require CPD to be presented in a different time zone. Her workshops focus on teaching applied clinical skills to help mental health clinicians provide personalised, values-based ERP for their OCD clients. Gayle enjoys integrating a trauma-informed approach into ERP training and aims to validate the clinical knowledge that participants have amassed prior to attending her workshops, helping them combine their existing skills with those learned in the workshop. She also concentrates on important areas in identifying treatment-resistant OCD to support clinicians and clients in challenging clinical situations. Gayle founded the Perth OCD Clinic in 2015 to provide a vital service to the Western Australian community, bringing together a team of independently practising clinical psychologists committed to providing exceptional psychological care to OCD sufferers using evidence-based practice. Gayle was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to establish an ongoing international research collaboration between the Perth OCD Clinic and Yale OCD Research Clinic. As a clinical academic, Gayle continues to work remotely for Yale University and teaches an annual class for psychiatry residents and allied health students on ‘treating complex clients in community psychiatry’. Her research interests focus on the development and testing of adjunct psychological techniques for treatment-resistant OCD, with a primary focus on imagery rescripting. The proceeds from the Perth OCD Clinic training workshops support the clinical research program conducted at the clinic.

“I found the workshop to be extremely helpful and practical in delving into the specific details of each core element of treatment. It equipped me with the necessary tools to apply the learning directly in my practice without delay. The opportunity for hands-on practice and the valuable pharmacotherapy information were also significant highlights! Gayle did a wonderful job sharing her wealth of knowledge in a clear and concise manner. She created a warm and welcoming environment that made me feel comfortable asking any question, no matter how big or small”

Shannon M, Clinical Psychologist

“I thought the balance of theory and practical application was excellent – I highly valued the demonstrations and how the breakout room activities were well supported by the scaffolding of the previous demonstration as well as by Gayle directly guiding in the moment”
